The Early Works consist of two major categories: The Neo Expressionistic Period (1978 through 1982) and the Cubistic Period (1980 through 1984). The two styles often overlap and reemerge in Helm's paintings even today. The qualities of the two styles are apparent in the compositional arrangement and the distortion of form displayed in more recent works.
